Kari Kaps is a collaborative pianist, educator, and performer, specializing in vocal collaboration and applied music instruction. Currently serving the students of Illinois Wesleyan University as Assistant Music Director of Theater, she collaborates with and trains music theater students. She additionally contributes to courses in music theater performance, audition preparation, and repertoire development.
As a performer, Kari is actively involved in local and regional productions, with a special interest in turn-of-the-century works ("millenial musicals").
Kari’s teaching experience spans all ages and stages of development, including teaching artistry in K-12 choral and theater programs and previous appointments at institutions such as Millikin University and Illinois State University. Across these roles, she has taught courses such as group piano, developed curriculum for music appreciation courses, and supported students with diverse goals toward their objectives. Her approach to teaching is grounded in practical musicianship, Alexander technique, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
